Watchmaking tools and dial

The Reasons Watch Owners Return to Horolume

Our approach is unhurried, our documentation is thorough, and our work stays in-house. Here's what that means in practice.

What Horolume Offers

All Work On-Site

Your watch is handled from intake to return in our George Town workshop. It doesn't travel to another city or sub-contractor.

Written Condition Notes

Every service includes a written summary of findings and completed work. You know exactly what happened to your watch.

Timing Machine Checks

Mechanical movements are verified on a calibrated timing machine after servicing. Results are recorded in your condition note.

Progress Updates

Restoration clients receive staged notes at each meaningful point. No long silences while work is in progress.

Grade-Matched Lubricants

Different movement components require different viscosities. We apply the correct lubricant grade to each part — not a single product throughout.

Honest Scope Control

Nothing additional is done or charged without your agreement. If scope changes mid-service, we stop and discuss it first.

Hands That Understand Mechanical Watches

Watch repair divides into two different skills: swapping batteries and consumable parts, and working with mechanical movements that require disassembly, cleaning, and re-lubrication. The latter requires genuine horology knowledge — familiarity with escapements, balance wheels, mainspring characteristics, and the particular behaviour of different calibre types.

At Horolume, mechanical work is handled by a watchmaker who has spent years on this specifically, not a technician cross-trained from electronics repair. That distinction matters when a movement is in pieces on the bench.

Swiss and Japanese mechanical calibres serviced with correct technique

Vintage movement experience including hand-wound and early automatics

Timing machine accuracy verification with documented results

Dedicated watchmaking bench — not a shared electronics counter

Condition note included with every job — refresh, service, or restoration

Staged progress notes for restoration clients throughout the process

Intake log maintained for each piece in the workshop

No extra work charged without prior discussion and agreement

Kept Informed at Every Stage

The experience of handing a valued watch to a repairer and hearing nothing for weeks is common, and not reassuring. At Horolume, communication follows a clear pattern: you're told what we found at intake, what the work involves, and when to expect collection.

For restoration work — which can take longer and involve decisions about parts and approach — we share progress notes at each meaningful stage so you're a participant in the process, not just waiting for a call.

Transparent Pricing, No Unexpected Additions

Our three service packages are priced to reflect the actual scope of work involved. The Dial-Ready Refresh covers battery, seals, and cosmetic cleaning at RM 600. The Movement Service — a full teardown and re-service — is RM 2,240. Keepsake Restoration is priced at RM 4,560 and covers coordinated case, dial, and movement work for vintage pieces.

If parts are needed that fall outside the package, those are discussed and quoted before any additional work proceeds. You won't find unexpected charges on collection.

The Details That Make a Difference

Pre-Service Assessment

We examine your watch and explain what we find before any work is agreed. You understand what it needs and why before committing.

George Town Heritage Context

Situated in Penang's historic core, Horolume operates alongside other craft and preservation-minded trades — a neighbourhood where careful work is taken seriously.

Managed Workload

We keep the number of pieces in progress manageable. That means realistic timelines and enough attention for each job — not a backlog treated as routine.

Period Parts Sourcing

For vintage restoration work, we source components that match the era of the piece. Modern substitutes are disclosed and discussed — never quietly fitted.
